January saw Jacklin perform and wow audiences at Auckland’s Laneway Festival, before announcing she’d return to play The Tuning Fork to celebrate her debut album. This is set to be an intimate affair, and so soon after her festival appearance we are lucky to get the second chance to catch Jacklin in 2017.
2016 was a breakout year for Jacklin, and found her performing with our own Marlon Williams, selling out Australian tours and playing many major festivals.
All of this was on the back of debut album, Don’t Let The Kids Win, received exceptionally well internationally, resulting in a sold out tour of the UK currently, and a tour of America before she returns to NZ. The album was recorded with Ben Edwards (of course, who else) in the Sitting Room studios in Lyttleton. Yet another magic album to come out of that fantastic studio, alongside Nadia Reid, Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding to name but a few.
She calls Fiona Apple, Anna Calvi and Angel Olsen (another of our favourites) influences, and it’s easy to hear that in the indie/folk/rock album.
“…her brilliant debut album captures a talent in its first, thrilling bloom” – Sunday Times UK
“…one of those albums that will slowly creep into the affections of a large number of people; it’s that lovely.” – The Guardian
We’re going to be at The Tuning Fork this coming Saturday 27th May, and we strongly suggest you are too. We’ll tell you how good it was, but if you’re there you’ll know how good it was! This has been in our diaries for months.
