For an Aussie on New Zealand soil, Jordie Lane managed to create a brilliant rapport with the crowd, from stories of his wild first tour up the east coast of Australia, to managing to turn a ‘Siri’ iPhone malfunction into a good joke. This was one of the most well-rounded gigs I’ve been to, with good banter, engaging lyrics and the songs… The songs were put together with such thought, the additions of Claire Reynolds, his other half on stage, were minimal rather than overdone, she added some much needed harmonies at points, and played the hell out of ‘Betty’ – the guitar case drum box.
Jordie Lane has such a way with the guitar, his fast songs get you nodding and grooving, while his slower tempo stories draw you in to focus on the intricate plucking, picking and strumming he brings.
If you’re reading this in Nelson (tonight) or Christchurch (tomorrow night) go along! You will regret missing him. And even think about picking up his live CD after the show, he’ll be sure to have a chat with you and sign it.
